Author Fred Krupp to be Keynote Speaker at IDEA's 99th Annual Conference & Trade Show

Monday’s keynote luncheon speaker is Fred Krupp, president of Environmental Defense Fund, a national nonprofit organization that links science, economics and law to solve the most serious environmental problems. He will share with us his perspectives on energy, the environment and global warming.

Krupp is the co-author of the new best-selling book Earth: The Sequel, where he makes the case that while global warming may be an overwhelming problem, it is also an entrepreneurial opportunity. He postures we can develop solutions today that will ensure a clean energy future and simultaneously stimulate the economy.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has lauded the book: “Krupp and Horn have turned the doom and gloom of global warming on its head. Earth: The Sequel makes it crystal clear that we can build a low-carbon economy while unleashing American entrepreneurs to save the planet, putting optimism back into the environmental story.” All full conference registrants will receive a copy of the book and an opportunity to have it signed by the author after the Keynote Luncheon address on June 30.

Krupp joined the Environmental Defense Fund in 1984 and guides the group in four focus areas: climate, oceans, human health and the common issues affecting land, water and wildlife. During Krupp’s tenure, Environmental Defense Fund has increased its annual budget from $3 million to more than $75 million; quintupled its full-time staff from 50 to more than 300; and expanded its membership from 40,000 to over 500,000; and opened offices in North Carolina, Texas and Beijing.

Krupp and Environmental Defense Fund helped develop market-based solutions such as the acid rain reduction plan in the 1990 Clean Air Act. Krupp was a founding member of the United States Climate Action Partnership, a coalition of leading corporations and environment organizations supporting mandatory limits in the United States on global warming pollution including a carbon cap and trade mechanism to unleash market forces.
