The four–story, 135,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility will focus on providing research laboratory space and shared core facilities as well as collaborative and instructional spaces. The approximate construction value for the new facility is $75 million. Concord Engineering is a member of the International District Energy Association (IDEA).
Concord Engineering maintains a longstanding relationship with Rutgers University, having recently completed geothermal engineering for the new business school at the Livingston campus, as well as past projects that include 69-kV substation design. Said Concord CEO and Rutgers alumnus Michael Fischette, PE, “We are thrilled to be part of yet another important Rutgers project, one that is the springboard for the University’s next research priorities.”
The new building includes flexible research laboratories and specialty research core facilities including Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Helium Ion Microscopy (HIM), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), X-ray, optical labs and cleanrooms.
The Commissioning Agent provides the Owner documented verification that the Building Systems Contractors (Mechanical, Electrical, Building Automation, Plumbing, and other essential systems) have completed their work and that the equipment and systems are fully operational, serviceable, tested and balanced, and meet design/contract document requirements. The building is targeting LEED® Gold certification, and Commissioning is a requirement of LEED.
