President Bush Highlights District Energy Technologies

In
a major boost to the district energy industry and the mission
of the International District Energy Association, President
Bush chose to highlight district energy technologies as the
backdrop for the first public unveiling of his National
Energy Policy in May.
The
President toured IDEA member District
Energy St. Paul Inc. to view the companys district
energy plant just prior to announcing the details of his National
Energy Policy. Ths policy is expected to help encourage additional
district energy and combined heat and power development.
IDEA
President Rob Thornton was
asked to brief the President and Energy Secretary Spencer
Abraham and Environmental Protection Administrator Christine
Todd Whitman on the success story of district energy. He also
joined the entourage on the tour of the St. Paul facility.
The
fact that the President chose to highlight district energy
and combined heat and power technologies
at his inaugural event unveiling his National Energy Policy
"underscores the growing recognition that energy efficiency,
reliability and fuel flexibility are district energy hallmarks,
and those certainly are key to stabilizing the countrys
energy future, Thornton said.
"The
President understands that district energy is here today,
that it works today and that we dont have to wait to
test it or research it. District energy systems are adaptable
and can take advantage of new energy technologies and ideas
as they come along, he added.
