88th Annual IDEA Conference & Tradeshow Abstracts Requested for the College/University Conference ProgramThere is still time to submit an abstract for a presentation at the 10th Annual College/University Conference. The theme of the meeting which is being held at the Omni Hotel in Charlottesville, Virginia, February 19-21, 1997, will be Colleges and Universities: Ten Years of Cooperative Growth.Papers are requested on the following general topics: Optimization of Campus Chilled Water Systems; Energy and Utility Master Planning; Utility Deregulation; Steam Systems Design and Construction; and Alternative Energy Options. Abstracts are due September 13, 1996 and final papers are due December 13, 1996. IDEA to Offer Job Classified AdvertisementsAs a new service to our members, IDEA will now offer a job classified section in this monthly newsletter. This section will include opportunities for companies with open positions in the district energy industry to advertise the position, either as a detailed ad or as a blind ad.The district energy industry has experienced growth and employee movement with new district cooling systems being built and the mergers and acquisitions of systems. With this increased movement among members we have received requests to help facilitate the member companies that have job openings and the members that are seeking jobs. District Energy Now has a circulation of over 1,500 people in the district energy industry and is the perfect place to put your advertisement if you wish to find an new employee in the district energy industry. Following are the details of the two types of ads that will be offered: Regular Ad - $1 per word, $25 minimum Blind Ad - $2 per word, $50 minimum (IDEA keeps the company name confidential. Job seekers will submit their resume to IDEA and it will be confidentially forwarded to the advertising company). Companies will submit a job advertisement in paragraph form to IDEA-Job Classifieds by the 20th of the month before the ad will run. The ads will be retyped and printed as received. Don't Miss the District Energy Space DeadlineAgain, we are requesting information to publish District Energy Space, a comprehensive compilation of all of the new customers added to IDEA member district energy systems during the year. This feature will be published in January in the First Quarter, 1997 issue of the magazine.We are eager to receive information from all of the member utilities and physical plants, so we can continue to show just how much district energy is growing as an industry. Only new customers signed up after September 1995 are eligible. The deadline to be in this issue of District Energy Space is Friday, August 30, 1996. Department of Commerce Announces Mission to Southeast AsiaThe U.S. Department of Commerce invites firms to participate in an Environmental Technologies Technical Seminar Mission to Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam October 18-31, 1996. This mission is designed to allow a small group of U.S. envirotech firms to interact directly with their best potential buyers. Stops in Jakarta, Bangkok and Hanoi will provide a forum in which U.S. companies can Asell@ the long-run cost and efficiency benefits of implementing environmentally sound production sooner rather than later with the focus on the inevitable rising cost of compliance, the public relations benefits, and efficiency-related cost savings.The participation fee is $3,000 not including airfare and hotel.
