Effects of Water Absorption and Retention in Thermal Insulation

07-03-2017 10:47

Summary

Some studies estimate that up to 98% of insulation system problems are caused by moisture; moisture that usually enters through the jacketing. Even Systems operating at high temperatures can retain large quantities of water. Water within thermal insulation accelerates heat gain causing increased energy consumption. We would like to present the issues that occur when insulation systems absorb moisture and the energy that can be saved by using a moisture impermeable material to insulate cold water pipe. It has been well documented that Cellular Glas insulation is one of the best solutions to prevent moisture ingress.
