IDEA and Johnson Controls presented the first of a free, two-part webinar series. The webinar began by exploring how traditional district cooling systems are designed using air-cooled and water-cooled heat rejection, and illustrated the continuum between optimized energy and optimized water consumption in such systems. Over time, air cooling and water cooling have become the default choices in the fundamental trade-off between energy efficiency and saving water. However, technology advancements and increasing social economic and government concerns due to localized water scarcity have created a demand for a new, innovative and more efficient tradeoff.
