Summary

A Sherwood Park-based company is becoming a well-known name in alternative energy solutions.

GSS Integrated Energy LTD. has been in the community since 2007 when it started as a geothermal company that began evolving into a thermal micro-grid developer for community projects.

“We had to create a web method of modeling and simulating how it would perform and over the course of that we developed our own internal software and a couple of years ago someone suggested other people might enjoy using that software,” explained Michael Roppelt, president and CEO of GSS Integrated Energy LTD. “We basically, over the last few years, have been commercializing the software. The initial software is easier to use and is somewhat low-level because it uses a lot of default values for different elements within the modeling but there is a more comprehensive software that our engineers are hoping to have out in the first part of next year.”

The software Roppelt is referring to is called Ripple Energy Studio, which is supported by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program and billed as an alternative energy simulation tool that models renewable, low carbon and traditional energy sources to determine energy load requirements.
