A Good IDEA, Serving Our Communities With More Than Just Energy!

By Paige Davis posted 02-01-2018 10:57

Throughout our nearly 110 year history, IDEA and our members are and have always been committed to providing and promoting efficient, reliable, environmentally sound energy to our cities, campuses and communities. Now with the introduction of A Good IDEA we are proud to say that we are committed to serving our communities in a whole new way.

A Good IDEA is a community outreach program inspired and led by IDEA staff and their passion to improve the quality of life in our local community as well as those communities that we visit through our conferences. Through this new and exciting program we look forward to giving back to our community through various channels such as donations to local charities and staff participation in volunteer activities.

IDEA is excited to launch this new community outreach program at our CampusEnergy2018 conference this March in Baltimore, MD. A Good IDEA is supporting the work of Ahsraf Blell, a Massachusetts native who works to provide food, clothing and other necessities to people in Boston who are experiencing homelessness, by collecting unopened, travel-sized toiletry items that will be donated and distributed in our local Boston community. Along with our host hotel, the Hilton Baltimore, we encourage conference attendees to donate their hotel toiletries that have gone unused at the start of each day. We also encourage attendees who are not staying at the Hilton Baltimore or those who feel inspired to do a little more to pack a few extra travel-sized toiletries when they join us in Baltimore. A little bit can go a long way in bringing dignity and normalcy to those who are experiencing homelessness and A Good IDEA is happy that through the generosity of our members and attendees we are able to do our part.

A Good IDEA will also be supporting a local charity in the city of Baltimore, the Center for Urban Families, with the donation of a Samsung TV. The Center for Urban Families addresses some of Baltimore’s most pressing issues, including poverty, unemployment, father-absence and family disintegration. They maintain an unwavering focus on addressing the key challenges of Baltimore’s urban families by working to connect fathers to their children, creating opportunities for economic and financial security through work, and providing access to other key interventions and supportive services. An identical TV will be raffled off during the CampusEnergy2018 conference with proceeds funding our John Gray Scholarship Program.
