Education Uninterrupted: Creating Campus Microgrids for Schools and Universities

11-08-2017 15:42

Summary

Many municipalities, universities, schools, and hospitals already integrate solar into their energy portfolio. Increasingly, they are adding energy storage to the mix to further reduce monthly energy expenses.  Advanced multiport power converters now offer grid-forming capabilities, enabling the creation of an in-building microgrid powered by the sun with batteries providing additional energy during high demand hours. These innovative power systems can minimize - or even eliminate - the need for backup generators.  Most importantly, they provide high-quality resilient power to the facility and the transition from grid power to backup power is seamless and not disruptive to business operations.
