Steele Hall - Energy Retrofit Project

02-19-2020 18:01

Summary

A 2018 HVAC renewal project at Steele Hall incorporated energy retrofit measures including heat recovery chillers installation and heating system conversion from steam to low temperature hot water. Using energy recovered from the campus chilled water network, the chillers generate hot water for building reheat loads year-round. Results indicate over 50% reduction in steam consumption, reduced campus chilled water consumption, with building electrical consumption at or below pre-project levels. Thanks to the installation of new heat recovery chillers Steele Hall is now the first Campus building to use the chilled water network as an energy link to recover energy all year long from any other buildings connected to the chilled water network.
