Microgrid/Smartgrid Research Facility: Scope, Hazards Analysis and Research Focus

Summary

This one of a kind facility broke new ground in terms of renewable energy systems integration. Problems solved included new frontiers on energy included DC arc flash and DC component sourcing. Lessons learned included pioneering of SCADA system allowing for flexibility/optimization of esoteric research needs such as waveform capture and time alignment, while segregating and there-by providing a more robust, safety system. Research focus will share results on the energy integration as well as the tools to advance this integration, eg: PV simulators, battery emulators, invertors, convertors, HiL devices and grid simulators.
