Entering Canada: Passport VISA Tips for Travelers

All visitors must have valid travel documents and identification to enter Canada, such as a passport or visa.

Find current information on entry requirements on the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) website. 

Requirements may vary depending on the country you’re travelling from — or transiting through.

VISA 

You may need a visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization. The entry document you need depends on:

  • the type of travel document you plan to travel with
  • the country that issued your travel document
  • your nationality
  • your method of travel to Canada for this trip

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is now a mandatory requirement for all visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air, with the exception of U.S. citizens or travellers with a valid Canadian visa. Apply Here. 

Visa-required foreign nationals must submit fingerprints and a photo (biometrics) to acquire their visa for travel to Canada.

Air Travel

Toronto has two  airports nearby, accessibility depending on where you are departing from. 

Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ/CYYZ) is the main international airport serving Toronto. It is an approximately 27km (17 miles), typically a 25-40 minute drive to the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, depending on your arrival time. 

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ/CYTZ) is a regional airport located on the Toronto Islands. It is often referred to as the Toronto Island Airport. After taking a 90-second ferry to the mainland, It is approximately a 10 minute drive to the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel. There are also shuttle buses as well.

You can take public transportation from the airport to Union Station which is a 12 minute walk or 5 min ride to the hotel
