With
its campus located in Northern Indiana, the University of Notre Dame Utilities
department oversees the campus district energy systems. Responsibilities
include the operation of the campus’s combined heat and power plant and
associated distribution systems that serve centrally produced utilities to over
11.5 million gross square feet of campus facilities. The University
uses its combined heat and power plant to produce steam, chilled water, hot
water and electricity as well as operates its own potable water, stormwater and
wastewater systems. The department employs approximately 50 University
employees including Administrators, Engineers, Operators, Mechanics and
Technicians.
