Decarbonization through electrification of heating is a matter of huge interest in many campuses with a central heating and cooling system. Digital Energy Inc. has developed a large scale heat pump application for the Cal State University Dominguez Hills that will help displace nearly 70% of the natural gas used in its central plant boilers. Heat pumps will operate in a dual mode - i.e., recover energy from chilled water when there is cooling demand and recover energy from ambient air when there is minimal cooling demand.
