This presentation will address a range of factors that affect the length of time required to decarbonize campus energy systems, including: 1) characteristics and site requirements for new technologies being implemented; 2) project delivery models (e.g. Engineer-Procure-Construct vs. Design-Bid-Build); 3) integration of building-related work with life-cycle renovation schedules; 4) availability of swing space to accommodate any invasive retrofit work in buildings; 5) characteristics, number and size of existing plants; 6) characteristics and length of thermal distribution systems; 7) site constraints affecting construction of new facilities while maintaining reliable service; 8) constraints on amount of open trench allowable at any one time.
