An electrification case study evaluating full electrification at the building-level compared to the benefits of decarbonization utilizing district energy resources. Technologies such as water-source heat pumps, air-source heat pumps, and hybrid connections with MIT’s Central Utilities Plant will be evaluated for partial and full building electrification configurations. Considerations for carbon benefits, EUI, life cycle costs, maintenance, and resiliency will be discussed to provide high-level perspective on future decarbonization of the grid.
