The Twin Cities offer a favorable temperature and hydrogeologic environment for sustainable district energy using ATES. This presentation will review the challenges met in advancing a new ATES district energy project in Minneapolis. The technical, regulatory, and business milestones that have marked the progress of this project will be presented. The initial phase of the project is expected to require from 1-2.5 MW of thermal capacity from the wellfield, using four or six ATES wells.
