In preparation for the impacts of climate change, the city of Boston implemented the Smart Utility Policy requiring large-scale new development to undergo a district energy and microgrid feasibility study. The Abbey Group, the pilot developer for this policy, hired WSP to perform the feasibility studies for Exchange South End, a 1.6M sq. ft mixed-use development in Southern Boston. This presentation is a case study focused on WSP’s experience working with the Abbey Group and the City of Boston to navigate this new policy and the results of the feasibility studies.
