Juan Ontiveros, Associate Vice President for Utilities and Facilities Management, UT Austin

Juan Ontiveros is the Associate Vice President for Utilities, Energy and Facilities Management at UT Austin. In this role he is responsible for the energy plant, the distribution of the produced energy to the campus along with managing purchased utilities like domestic water, sewer, and natural gas and the maintenance of the 20 million plus square foot campus. Previously, he was Executive Director of Utilities and Energy Management for the systems that produce 100% of the electrical, steam and chilled water for the campus. Juan has been involved in design, construction, maintenance engineering, project management, and plant operations, utility master planning, construction and utility rate negotiations for over 40 years. He served on the IDEA Board of Directors and is Past Chair of IDEA, 2012 IDEA Norm R. Taylor Award winner, a Global Climate Award Winner in 2009 from the International Energy Agency and the inaugural Robert Galvin award from the U.S. Green Buildings Council in 2015. Juan holds a B.S. and an M.S. in mechanical engineering and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas.
