Session Abstract

This presentation will describe the process Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, has embarked upon and the results of the initial Roadmap, the redesign of the central plant and district steam system, and the building cluster study about to begin.

The Brooklyn campus is 2MM sf and served by an 1887 high psi steam plant and thermal distribution system.

How does Pratt achieve an 80% carbon reduction while minimizing operating and capital costs and maximizing long term value considering the following:

- Mandated carbon caps 2025, 2030, 2035 and 2040 and pricing of $280/ton (Local Law 97)

- Low/no carbon electric and thermal technologies

- Increased power requirements and resilience

  • Use of state, utility, and Biden infrastructure funding
