Session Abstract

This presentation will discuss the addition of two new steam turbine generators (15MW) within the Main Power Plant at the University of Iowa. The two steam turbine generators included TG7, a 5 MW back-pressure unit, and TG8, a 10 MW tandem unit with a back-pressure side and condensing side. TG8 is unique and set up to operate in its most efficient mode, back-pressure during normal operation, and can operate in condensing mode for emergency backup power, utility curtailment, and during an electrical storm.
