Challenges of Electrification on Historic Campuses

09-13-2023 13:26

Session Abstract

Many of the campuses in existence in the Northeastern United States include a backbone of old, historic buildings. Though they represent a trademark of many of the campuses they are on, these buildings present a number of challenges for building owners. Most notably, those campus owners who are focused on reducing their overall carbon and emissions footprints are hard pressed to do so within these historic campuses. This presentation will present some of these challenges, ways to overcome the challenges and a case study focused on the Masonic Care New Rochelle campus where these techniques have been put in place to successfully electrify and decarbonize an old, historic campus. This campus is in the process of being converted to mixed use.
