By utilizing a uniquely controlled campus-wide geothermal well field, Watchtower's mixed-use live/work/play campus in Rockland County is able to fully electrify with a reduced electric peak. All heat rejected from the campus is used instantaneously as space heat/DHW, or stored as thermal energy in a solid rock formation beneath one of the buildings. The heating and energy recovery system is sized for a 1.8 million SF of occupied space. The ground source heat exchanger consists of 215 eight-hundred-foot-deep wells. These wells are bored into solid rock. The energy storage system will heat the rock approximately 10 to 15 degrees heat stored in the geologic mass. The cycle time for the energy storage is seasonal through an 8,760-hr year.
