Engie/University of Iowa District Cooling Renewal Project Case Study

08-08-2023 11:32

Session Abstract

This presentation discusses replacing aging turbine generators with two steam turbine generators at the University of Iowa’s Power Plant. This project modified the river water cooling system to increase heat rejection capabilities, reconfigured the plant steam system to reduce single point failure and upgraded the plant control system. Benefits of this project include more cost-effective electric generation, more system flexibility for adjusting to campus load swings, and added reliability for future outages.
