Decarbonizing College Campuses through Infrastructure Upgrades

08-08-2023 11:10

Session Abstract

Working with St. John’s University, Burns Engineering is helping with compliance of New York City’s Local Law 97 and align with the school’s master plan to decarbonize the campus with installation of electric heater chillers. The new machines eliminate requirement of steam for production of chilled water, reducing carbon emission and footprint. Additionally, piping infrastructure and controls were designed to allow future connection to a geothermal well field. Compliance savings with this project estimate $300k/year for the University.
