District energy is crucial in decarbonizing cities. But it’s important to deploy modern controls and services for district energy networks to reach the sustainability goals effectively. Variable frequency drives adjusting the speed of pumps and energy generating equipment to the current need are able to bring 20 to 60% energy savings on average. Another benefit of drives is prolonged pump lifetime. Changing motors running pumps to most efficient ones can decrease losses by 40%, resulting in further improvement of energy use. Digital services coming on top of drives and motors enable energy use monitoring as well as predictive maintenance which results in component repair way before it fails rather than its replacement (wise material usage).
