Beneath the streets of Baltimore, Vicinity Energy’s robust underground district energy network of piping (over 28 miles) distributes 99.99% reliable steam (1.2M lbs./hr.), hot water (164MMBTU/hr.) and chilled water (40,450 tons/hr.) to hundreds of customers (over 30M sq. ft.) in the central business district and Harbor East, while lowering the city’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by nearly 30,000 tons annually.
This presentation will focus on how Vicinity Energy plans and executes growth, renewal, and operations, and some of the technical design challenges encountered and solutions implemented along the way.
