Session Abstract

Drake Landing Solar Community is a solar thermal district heating system with seasonal thermal storage. It supplies space heating to 52 houses in the town of Okotoks, Alberta. Commissioned in 2007, it achieves over 90% decarbonisation of space heating, and has reached its 14th year of operation in 2021.  The project successfully demonstrated the technical feasibility of solar-driven seasonal energy storage in a northern climate.
