Session Abstract

How does a legacy DES modernize with growth and expansion? HCE’s network at McMaster Innovation Park is a multiple-source sustainable 3rd generation DES that evolved from a building-based energy system. As HCE looks to expand this system and reduce its carbon footprint, they needed to conduct a network-wide optimization assessment to identify the challenges and opportunities of growth. This presentation will focus on the challenges of overcoming the design and operational constraints of legacy systems.
