This presentation will provide a summary of Cornell University’s plan to transition from steam to hot water as well as the relative cost between the distribution system vs the building renovations. Cornell has decided to transition their campus to a LTHW system with three phases in a cascading fashion. The first is to create hot water districts, the second is to replace the steam transmission system, and the third is to transition to a low carbon generating source. Understanding the relative costs between the distribution system estimate, the building conversions, and the generating source is surely something that peer institutions can benefit from.
