The U.S. Maritime Administration provides ships as training vessels for six state maritime academies. The agency is currently working to replace these older ships with new vessels that will better meeting training needs while providing the U.S. with ships that can support disaster response and other critical national needs. The first new vessels is expected in 2023 at SUNY Maritime Academy. The new, world-class vessels are different in size and appearance, as well as utility needs. Changes required at SUNY Maritime include significant upgrades to their district energy networks for steam and power. This presentation highlights the fascinating transition of America's Maritime Academies to accommodate state-of-the-art training vessels.
