District heat is traditionally provided by producing steam via a gas fired boiler or combined heat and power. Electrification of steam production enables decarbonization of district heating through the use of renewable energy, but electric boilers result in a high operational expense. Heat pumps provide a more efficient means of thermal production, while also providing district cooling as a benefit. This presentation will provide detailed case studies on heat pump applications evaluated for district heating.
