Session Abstract

SUNY, the largest comprehensive university system in the US, is subject to New York State’s The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act with GHG emission reduction goals of 40%/2030 and 85%/2050. SUNY is charting near-term actions and long-term decisions through 24 simultaneous Clean Energy Master Plans (CEMPs). Case study results will cover energy efficiency, electrification of fossil fuel assets, low carbon scenario planning (baseload/peaking/backup strategies), regional electric capacity assessment, economic analysis, and implementation and phasing hurdles. Ramboll is performing 8 CEMPs, each having unique aspects such as centralized (steam, high/medium temperature water), decentralized, urban, rural, hospitals, and research.
