MIT Smart P&ID Upgrades:How MIT Revamped Their P&IDs with Plan for the Future

Session Abstract

Legacy Power Plants are facilities that require additional effort to keep up with the ever-changing demands of technology and reliability.  This presentation looks at the process and challenges of transforming old schematic drawings and documentation into smart Piping Instrumentation Diagrams (PI&Ds) for the MIT CHP Plant.  The Smart P&ID project took more than a year to complete, incorporates more than 15,000 components, and is the initial step in a larger plan to help MIT develop a comprehensive Reliability Program. The P&IDs were used to re-tag all the components in the plant with a new tagging and asset cataloging system.
