As a part of Upstate Medical Hospital’s master plan of providing independent, reliable steam to its critical services, an auxiliary power plant was built on campus and recently commissioned. This new plant allowed Upstate to no longer purchase their steam for portions of their campus. With two power plants that can be interconnected, the ability to provide reliable, stable control of both plants became paramount. This project describes how the controls systems was upgraded to meet their future needs without interrupting any of their critical operations of an operating hospital during the pandemic.
