Session Abstract

Six years ago, HGA developed an approach we called Full Heat Recovery Engagement to change how heat recovery equipment is sized and applied.  By recognizing the chillers as heating devices first, we realize the benefits of dramatically reducing energy and water use, carbon, and fossil fuel use. To our knowledge, MetroHealth is the first full scale replacement hospital that used these principles from the ground up, integrating operation of the CUP and three buildings it serves, obtaining its occupancy certificate in August 2022.  We will review the approach and discuss lessons learned from the first winter of operation.
