Western University implemented a deep energy retrofit project on its chilled water network. Both chilled water plants, totalizing 11,300 tons of cooling, were operating independently, each supplying one sector of the campus. The project allowed to operate both plants as one with the implementation of a pumping station that enables using the best chillers in any plant to supply the network. Pumping improvements were done to reduce energy consumption. The project resulted in an overall saving of 1,600 kW in peak demand. The project also helped to mitigate the "low delta T syndrome" of the chilled water networks, thus improving chilled water production and pumping efficiency.
