Session Abstract

Fortum Tartu, Estonia, added Thermal Energy Storage (TES) to enable much lower energy cost, increase use of renewable energy and increase capacity. The success behind the design, implementation and operation is linked to the use of advanced and complex modeling tools as well as accurate historical and forecasted demand data. Details: This presentation is a case study showing how Fortum Tartu, Estonia, citywide district energy operator used various tools, data and knowledge to design, size and locate thermal energy storage in their distribution network in order to utilize biomass and waste energy in a more optimal way. The synergies between the design / sizing and the hydraulic knowledge of the distribution network gave other results
