Optimizing Capital Investments in the Pandemic and the New Normal

10-31-2023 12:28

Session Abstract

The COVID-19 Pandemic has caused seismic impacts on our industry, with many unknowns regarding the timing & form which will define the "new normal" of operations as & after the virus is controlled.  Many capital projects will be cancelled or indefinitely delayed; but others will proceed, when needed to address new construction, retrofit expansions, or replacements of aging infrastructure.  Using Case Studies, comparisons will be made between investing in conventional chiller plant capacity vs investing in equivalent Thermal Energy Storage (TES) capacity.  Conventional capacity, if overbuilt, represents an idle investment until such time as load growth catches-up.  But TES capacity can be fully utilized (& benefits captured) even on day one.
