Microgrids are the fastest growing market segment in the energy world. This rapid rise has resulted in a wide range of related meanings, components, functions, and applications. This presentation will provide clarity to what a microgrid is by defining its components and functions. It will provide answers to why microgrids are used: the benefits and advantages of microgrid operation. The question of where are microgrids used will be answered by using several locations and applications of actual microgrids including healthcare facilities, mission-critical service providers, remote mining sites, and agricultural businesses. Brief descriptions of each of these example applications will supply insight into real world uses of CHP systems.
