Arizona State University - How ASU’s Utility Masterplan Yielded a Roadmap to Decarbonization

Session Abstract

ASU main Tempe campus is home to 66,000 students, faculty and staff and includes 13M GSF of facilities and 3M GSF of Research. The presentation will share the process of surveying, condition assessments for 13 campus utilities and 4 central plants then created a comprehensive GIS database that can be accessed by campus planning, capital programs and facilities staff for projects and maintenance. The

database was used to masterplan 10 years of utility needs and decarbonize the campus Scope 1 CO2 by 80%. The phasing plans and budgets leveraged deferred maintenance and infrastructure reinvestment funding to help mitigate the premium costs to decarbonize.
