Achieving 80% Carbon reduction at Simon Fraser University

10-25-2023 14:11

Session Abstract

Corix Utilities Inc. completed the construction of its new large 13.5MW biomass central energy plant at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Burnaby, BC. This new facility is the central plant for two distinct and separate DE systems. The first as the baseload GenCo supplying only green energy to SFU and second as the district utility provider for the UniverCity residential community district energy system.

The effect of the biomass central energy plant going into service in August 2020, was to overnight reduce SFU's and UniverCity's DE systems CO2 emissions by an amazing 80%.

This presentation will describe the journey from inception to completion and partnership for this major transition from fossil fuel to low Carbon for SFU and UniverCity.
