The City of Duluth leveraged the reconstruction of its main street, and advancement of its medical district, to upgrade its district system from steam-to-hot water in the core commercial district and to medical centers. This transformation increases system efficiency, reduces carbon, enables renewable integration, and positions for further customer growth. 16 blocks of the distribution system were converted over 3 years. Sean McFarling will share lessons learned from the advancement of this community energy system.
