Student Video Contest

Campus Energy Student Video Contest

LLD_1193.jpg

Launched in 2012, this contest challenges students from IDEA member institutions to create a short video (under 3 minutes) about their campus energy plant, focused on district energy, combined heat and power (CHP), and/or microgrids. The primary goal of the contest is to enhance general awareness among students of how their institutions' district energy systems and their operators provide a reliable, economic, efficient and environmentally sound means of heating, cooling and powering their campuses. By posting entries on the IDEA website, YouTube page and social media, submissions also help to educate the general public about district energy and its role in campus sustainability.

Why is District Energy on campuses important?

There is no doubt that students are aware of the need to conserve water, to turn off lights when they aren't in the room and to recycle waste materials. But do they know the vital role that your district energy system plays in your college or university's sustainability efforts? District energy systems help campuses by providing improved energy efficiency, enhanced environmental protection, fuel flexibility, reliability, and decreased life-cycle costs compared to traditional energy systems.

How can I participate in the contest?

Any full-time or part-time student from an IDEA member campus can enter the contest with an orginal video telling the story of the district energy ssytem on your campus! Not sure if your school is a member? Click here to find out.

Not a student? That's ok! We also need your help by circulating the contest information around your campus to anyone in your student body who might be interested. We have even made it easy for you by putting together an informational flyer that you can use to hang up around campus or email to anyone you think might want more information.

How do I win?

A winner will be selected primarily based on content; a committee of IDEA Members will evaluate all submissions based on how educational and informative the content is, the power and clarity of the video's message, originality and creativity, and production quality. The secondary criteria will come from social media. Once all submissions are received, videos will be posted online on IDEA's YouTube channel and submissions will be evaluated based on the number of "likes" received by each video on that page. For more details about how to win, please refern to the contest Rules + Regulations.
