District Heat Manager / Senior Engineer
Aurora Energy LLC is seeking a district heat manager/senior engineer for its downtown Fairbanks, Alaska cogeneration power plant.
Job Summary:
The District Heat Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the steam and hot water district heating system. The ideal candidate should possess a strong knowledge of steam/hydronic distribution systems, energy metering and experience in construction and project management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
o Oversee the maintenance and operation of the district heating system to ensure optimal efficiency and minimal downtime.
o Provide cost estimates for capital and in-house projects.
o Develop annual budgets and maintenance schedules
o Lead daily system maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
o Serve as the primary contact for district heating customer service requests and technical issues.
o Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
o Lead in planning, design and construction supervision of all district heat capital projects.
o Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, other utilities, developers, government agencies, and external partners for coordinated project management.
o Monitor energy consumption, identify efficiency improvement opportunities, and recommend solutions.
o Prepare reports on system performance, maintenance activities, project progress and budget tracking.
o Provide engineering support for power plant related projects.
o Conduct cost/benefit analyses for long-term plans and maintain a prioritized list of future projects and major maintenance activities.
o Maintain system records, project files, plans, drawings, ACAD maps and documentation.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
o Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or civil engineering, construction or energy management, or related field is preferred.
o 5 years of experience in Mechanical/Civil Engineering or related HVAC or construction experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
o Proven experience in project management, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and overseeing capital projects.
o Some experience in AutoCAD software and proficient in Microsoft Suite programs.
o PE certification in Alaska is a plus.
o PMP or similar project management certification is a plus.
o Possess a valid Alaska Driver’s License
o Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills required
o Must pass a post-offer physical and drug test
