Another Good IDEA

By Paige Davis posted 06-05-2018 11:40

Introduced in March at the CampusEnergy 2018 conference, A Good IDEA is a community outreach program inspired and led by IDEA staff and their passion to improve the quality of life in our local community as well as those communities that we visit during our conferences. Throughout our nearly 110 year history, IDEA and our members have always been committed to providing and promoting efficient, reliable, environmentally sound energy to our cities, campuses and communities. Now through A Good IDEA we are proud to say that we are committed to serving our communities in a whole new way.

In March 2018 A Good IDEA collected unused toiletry items from CampusEnergy2018 conference attendees to support the work of Ahsraf Blell, a Massachusetts native who works to provide food, clothing and other necessities to people in Boston who are experiencing homelessness.

IDEA is excited to continue this community outreach program at our IDEA2018 conference this June in Vancouver, BC. A Good IDEA is supporting the work of PHS Community Services Society, whose goal is to provide housing, service and advocacy to those poorly served in Vancouver, BC’s Downtown Eastside and in Victoria, BC., by collecting unopened, travel-sized toiletry items that will be donated and distributed in the local community. Along with our host hotels, the Pinnacle Vancouver Harbourfront and the Marriott Vancouver Pinnacle Downtown, we encourage conference attendees to donate their hotel toiletries that have gone unused at the start of each day. We also encourage attendees who are not staying at one of our host hotels or those who feel inspired to do a little more to pack a few extra travel-sized toiletries when they join us in Vancouver. A little bit can go a long way and A Good IDEA is happy that through the generosity of our members and attendees we are able to do our part.

A Good IDEA will also be supporting Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver with the donation of a Samsung Ultra HD Smart TV and the furniture used for panel discussions during the conference. Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver is one of 58 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across Canada and among more than 3000 affiliates around the world. Habitat for Humanity is an inclusive, non-profit, non-government organization. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat works with families in need to build safe, decent and affordable housing. An identical TV will be raffled off during the IDEA2018 conference with proceeds funding our John Gray Scholarship Program.
