Accelerating Downtown Decarbonization with District Energy Webinar Series

When:  Sep 16, 2025 from 13:00 to 14:30 (ET)
Part One: Electrification Strategies for Downtown District Steam Networks in Boston, San Francisco and New York City

This 90 minute webinar will feature presentations and a panel discussion with Q&A among district energy system owner/operators in major US cities (Boston/Cambridge, Manhattan, San Francisco) on how they are planning and implementing decarbonization of downtown steam networks to help customer buildings comply with state and local policies like Local Law 97, San Francisco Climate Action Plan, BERDO, BEUDO and others.

This is Part One in a multi-part series of free webinars on downtown decarbonization to be hosted by the International District Energy Association (IDEA) and featuring in-depth discussions with the people making it happen.

To include presentations and discussions on:

  • What technologies are currently being deployed or evaluated to deliver low-carbon steam to buildings on the network – electric boilers, industrial heat pumps, thermal storage, machine learning, all of the above? What is current status and time scale for supply?
  • How do economies of scale enable a district energy system to mitigate customer risk and optimize operations in leveraging lower-cost, lower-carbon power from the grid?
  • What are lessons learned so far in permitting, siting and operating low-carbon equipment?
  • How have project timelines for design, regulatory approvals, construction, and commissioning evolved?
  • Are the shifts in federal, state and other policies impacting strategies? How can the lessons learned in these cities inform other stakeholders and locations?
  • How does low-carbon steam supply support customer compliance with building greenhouse gas policy provisions like Local Law 97 in New York City, San Francisco’s Climate Action Plan or the Boston Emissions Reductions and Disclosure Ordinance
  • PRESENTERS INCLUDE:
