Arlington Microgrid - A Learning Experience for the Utility Marketplace

Summary

Snohomish County Public Utility District (SnoPUD) has embarked on the design of a microgrid at their new Arlington Office with the following functions in mind: Renewable Energy Resource Integration, Grid Support and Ancillary Services, Disaster Recovery, and Vehicle to Grid (V2G) Development.  The initial study phase and 30 percent design is nearing completion with detailed design to begin immediately after.  The microgrid will feature 500kW of ground mounted PV, 1000kW/1000kWh Lithium-Ion Battery Storage, multiple V2G charging stations for fleet vehicle interconnection, a standby diesel generator for extended outage support.  The final project will be studied by facility and students from the University of Washington.
