5MW CHP Microgrid at Gainesville Regional Utilities

Summary

Over the past decade, several market influences have led to an increased interest and installation of distributed generation, cogeneration, combined heat and power and microgrids. Today’s natural gas prices and the increasing cost to utilities for environmental compliance create an environment in which many traditional utility customers consider installing local generation assets. This presentation discusses why distributed generation in microgrid applications has become a key consideration for accomplishing campus goals and presents a successful example of a 5MW, municipal utility owned, CHP plant in Gainesville, Fla., owned and operated by Gainesville Regional Utilities.
