Building A Resilient Steam Network

02-18-2020 11:53

Summary

During a recent campus expansion, the U of Alabama at Birmingham chose to use aerogel blankets in their thermal distribution network to make it the most robust, resilient system available. With the incidents of severe weather increasing, campus steam operators are looking for insulation solutions that keep their networks running during periods of wetness and flooding. Aerogels have a track record of supplying steam network operators with the resiliency and survivability even in these extreme events and the ability to get these systems back on line quickly. We aim to show the previous state of the UAB system and the upgrades made using aerogel. We will highlight the end user value realized so IDEA members can benefit from this case study.
